NCP has secured a 35-year lease on a multi-storey car park at New Bailey, a brand new riverside development in Salford, Greater Manchester, adding 633 new spaces to the popular and busy destination.
This will be the second multi-storey car park that NCP will operate within New Bailey having originally agreed the lease of the first 620 space multi-storey car park in December 2014 with English Cities Fund (ECf).
Following the completion of the first New Bailey car park in 2014, demand for parking has continued to grow, largely due to the regeneration and expansion of the New Bailey and Chapel Street areas, and the subsequent increased footfall.
The new car park, situated in the Salford development, will provide parking for occupiers and residents of New Bailey, as well as for the many commuters and visitors to Manchester city centre.
The visually striking car park, which has been designed by AHR architects, will be lit using energy efficient LED lighting and will provide six electric vehicle charging points, as well as 20 wide bays.
The new site will also offer the latest customer-focused payments facilities, including Automatic Number Plate Recognition so those who sign up to link payments to their registration number can get automated payments when they park.
Furthermore, the innovative technology installed will be linked to and supported by NCP’s dedicated team in its Manchester-based Customer Contact Centre. As such, faults in the equipment will be self-detected and resolved quickly, significantly reducing the impact on customers.
This announcement comes following a decision by NCP to significantly expand its estate, with areas across the North and Midlands including Manchester, Newcastle, York, Stoke, Coventry, Liverpool, Chester and Preston being a key focus for the business.
Lee Holland, Property Director at NCP, said: “NCP is in the midst of expanding its 500-site portfolio, focussing on delivering where there is a strong customer need and Manchester is a city where we think there is a huge opportunity to satisfy demand.
“New Bailey is a fantastic development that has proved to be incredibly popular with the local community, and so we are delighted to have secured this lease to provide a second multi-storey car park as part of it. We believe in the importance of working closely with property owners and developers to create an overall experience – whether in parking, business or retail – that puts the customer first throughout.
“As such, the new car park will provide customers with a range of parking facilities to meet their needs, as well as state-of-the-art technologies to help provide them with a seamless parking experience.”
Phil Mayall, development director at ECf, said: “The addition of a second car park is key to the New Bailey masterplan and we’re delighted to once again be working with NCP to help bring that forward.
“Since the completion of One New Bailey especially, the current car park at New Bailey is full every day. And with more office and residential developments planned for the area, we need to ensure that ample parking is available for those wishing to drive into the city.”
Work has started on site and is due for completion in December.
