NCP retains ISO 14001 across its Bolton and London Underground partnerships

NCP - Topp Way Car Park

Following a number of rigorous external assessments in August NCP is pleased to announce that it has successfully retained its ISO 14001 Environmental Management accreditation for its Bolton Borough Council and London Underground contracts.

ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that outlines how to put an effective environmental management system in place by monitoring and controlling the impact of an organisation’s activities, products and services on the environment. By maintaining an ISO 14001 framework NCP demonstrates to clients, customers and its employees that its environmental impact is considered, measured and improved. It also provides assurance that legal and regulatory requirements are met.

Following the annual assessment by leading independent auditors SGS, certification has been awarded until September 2018. The report highlighted that NCP had corrected the minor issues identified in the previous audit and continues to make improvements to its environmental performance.

NCP’s targets for the next twelve months include:

  • Reducing NCP staff vehicle usage to minimise emissions, with electric vehicle trials in progress
  • Achieving a 10% reduction in staff travel to minimise emissions
  • Promoting NCP’s Cycle to work scheme to reduce the number of vehicular journeys taken
  • Reducing electrical energy use by 5% through increased use of solar powered parking equipment
  • Introducing a rubbish recycle scheme at a number of sites
  • Improving its internal communication procedures regarding environmental improvement targets

Nigel Parker, NCP’s lead auditor said:

NCP’s certification demonstrates our continuing commitment to helping to protect the environment and is an important step in the transition towards the new industry standards that come into force in 2018 (ISO 14001 2015). We have taken and are continuing to take a number of steps to minimise our environmental impact and reduce our carbon footprint across our Bolton and London Underground contracts as well as our whole parking portfolio.
